You are greeted by design
Sleek surfaces, high-quality materials, new control concepts ā the design of appliances has never been more innovative. Alessandro Finetto, head of industrial design at Bauknecht, explains the uniqueness of the new appliances by their attention to a few important factors ā convenience, elegantly simple design and sustainability.
A recent study conducted by Bauknecht and Research Plus showed that 50 percent of Germans, 42 percent of Dutch and 28 percent of Swiss look out for appliances when buying them.
That is why Bauknecht creates appliances with an attractive and innovative design, such as the Kult built-in oven with a continuous glass front and touchscreen display.
Nothing is superfluous
Alessandro Finetto, head of industrial design at Bauknecht, points out that in developing the Kult oven the design team did not necessarily want to create a flashy appliance:
āWe only left the essentials of the Kult oven design, namely a single continuous glass panel. The panel completely hides the oven when it is not in use. In addition, the interface of the panel was designed to simplify the operation of the device.ā.
Simple, economical and lasts
Appliance designers need to be far more forward-thinking than designers of other products. Customers want an oven or refrigerator that will not lose its appeal over time and will always look modern, because the service life of household appliances is quite long.
āIt would be wrong to follow every new trend,ā says Alessandro Finetto. The goal of Mr. Finetto and his department is to create durable appliances. This applies not only to the exterior but also to the choice of materials when designing the individual components.
āOur minimalist design puts the emphasis on the design of our appliances, which should also reflect the principle that āless is moreā. Fewer parts are used to build modern ovens than before.
The appliances are more powerful than those from a few years ago,ā explains Alessandro Finetto. ā In the development of the latest KULT, ATRIUM and KOMFORT built-in ovens, we were able to change the design completely: We changed the appearance, created a new heat distribution system and a new operating concept.
Clear at a glance
Mr. Finetto believes that his teamās approach to design has fundamentally changed over the past few years: āAppearance is no longer the main thing ā itās the user-friendliness of the appliances that counts.
According to Finetto, the key to good design is genuine interest in consumersā lifestyles: āWe draw inspiration from our customersā suggestions when creating products.
There are two main trends in the development of appliances. On the one hand, consumers want simple, intuitive and, wherever possible, touch-screen control of complex functions.
On the other hand, sustainability and minimum consumption of resources are taken into account in product development. āLow energy consumption and economical use of resources play an important role in the development of products.
This also applies to new technologies such as the insulation of refrigerators and the choice of high-quality, recyclable materials such as glass, which we are increasingly using for the fronts of appliances.
Weāve made significant advances in green appliances in recent years, and the trend is only gaining momentum. A recent study has shown that in just a few years it will be possible to combine the functions of household appliances to significantly reduce resource consumption.ā.
