ASUS introduces the ASUS RP-AC87, the company’s fastest dual-band repeater supporting Wi-Fi 802.11ac. The ASUS RP-AC87 is capable of up to 1734Mbps on the 5GHz band and up to 800Mbps simultaneously on the 2.4GHz band, for a total bandwidth of 2534Mbps. Operating in 4×4 MIMO mode, the ASUS RP-AC87 provides increased wireless coverage. So it’s great for building a wireless network in large rooms and multi-storey houses.
ASUS Extender
Another way to instantly connect your repeater to your wireless network is with WPS technology. Two LEDs allow you to instantly assess the signal strength in each operating band, which is especially useful when searching for the optimal position of the repeater in your apartment.
The ASUS RP-AC87’s power plug swivel mechanism ensures it can always be placed in an upright position, which is optimal for efficient operation.
Three modes of operation
The new ASUS RP-AC87 supports three modes of operation. In addition to a wireless repeater, it can act as a wireless access point and network bridge, making it a versatile device.
In network bridge mode, the ASUS RP-AC87 can be connected to a variety of Ethernet-compatible devices such as smart TVs, media players, game consoles and computers to realize their Wi-Fi support.
To operate the extender in AP mode, you’ll need to connect it to a wired network and then it will “distribute” Internet to laptops, smartphones and other Wi-Fi-enabled gadgets. Access point mode can also come in handy when you have a last-generation single-band router that only operates at 2.4 GHz, allowing it to operate in the 5 GHz band at up to 1,734 Mbps, while increasing its speed to 800 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band.
Plus, when connected to an existing network in the 5 GHz band, the ASUS RP-AC87 Repeater in Access Point mode allows you to create an additional network, so you can connect even more devices.
