Asus announces PadFone mini: 4-inch smartphone and 7-inch tablet

At CES 2014 Asus introduced PadFone mini – a unique device that can be used as a 4-inch smartphone or 7-inch tablet. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, PadFone mini offers a large, high-resolution screen with 1280 x 800 pixels. The latest addition to the Asus PadFone family, it’s loaded with Intel Atom Z2560, 8GB of user memory, and a micro SD card slot with up to 64GB.

Computers and peripherals

Technology Asus DynamicDisplay provides instant application resizing when switching between smartphone and tablet modes, and two cameras allow you to take high-quality photos and communicate via video.

PadFone mini supports two SIM cards at the same time, such as one for phone calls and the other for Internet access. The device software is implemented in a completely new interface ZenUI.

PadFone mini has an attractive design and is available in five colors.

Gorgeous design and unrivaled mobility

PadFone mini combines the convenience of a 4-inch smartphone with the functionality of a 7-inch tablet. The total weight of its two components is only 376g. Weighs in at 116g and is 6.3mm thick at its thinnest edge. PadFone mini has a beautiful metal body with a durable ceramic coating.

4-inch screen 800×480 pixels and 7-inch display tablet 1280×800 pixels are made on the technology IPS +, which gives them a wide viewing angle and excellent color reproduction. Instantly upsize applications when switching between two displays with Asus’ exclusive DynamicDisplay technology.

High-speed response of applications, both in smartphone and tablet mode provides Intel Atom Z2560 processor running at 1.6 GHz.

PadFone mini has a large battery capacity of 3270 mAh 12.8 Watt-hours , so it offers excellent long battery life in spite of its compact size and high performance. The tablet dock also recharges your smartphone when connected, further increasing your battery life.

8-megapixel camera with PixelMaster technology

The PadFone mini 8-megapixel primary camera has a 5-element optic system with a large aperture f/2.0 and a Sony back-illuminated sensor. Its implemented technology PixelMaster provides changing the pixel size of the image sensor to increase light sensitivity by 400%, which allows you to take high-quality photos in low light conditions, even without using the flash.

In addition to all sorts of features designed to improve image quality and processing, PadFone mini camera supports fast shooting mode, and is capable of taking photos in parallel with recording 1080p video.

Asus ZenUI interface and exclusive apps

PadFone mini software is implemented in the perfect new user interface, ZenUI, developed by Asus experts. The interface is simple to learn and easy to use, enabling users to stay connected and use every feature of the PadFone mini.

In addition, PadFone mini is installed exclusive Android applications Asus, which include an email client with a mode of viewing emails as conversations, web browser with automatic adjustment of the background color to reduce eye fatigue, and photo album with the possibility of online synchronization.

Intel Atom series processor

In the device Asus PadFone mini, as well as in smartphones Asus ZenFone uses modern Intel Atom processors, which surpass their analogues in a wide range of test applications and can even compete in a number of tasks with quad and octa-core solutions.

The latest Intel Atom processors feature Hyper-Threading technology to successfully process four instruction threads simultaneously, and their integrated graphics core is several times faster than competing solutions.
