Imagining the design of your future kitchen is a fascinating task. The first step is to decide on the style of your kitchen. Specialists distinguish between several design styles. Let’s talk about Art Nouveau.

Modern is a beautiful style

The word “modern” usually means the new style of today, something that is currently on the wave of consumer interest and at the same time has the possibility of technical implementation by the hands of the manufacturer.

This vocabulary, of course, has a right to exist, because the word “art nouveau” in translation from French literally means: “in the new, modern taste” according to Chudinov’s Dictionary of Foreign Words A. n., 1910 or “Modern, Contemporary” according to Komlev’s Dictionary of Foreign Words N. g., 2006 .

At the same time, the term “Art Nouveau” and also Art Nouveau, Tiffany, Liberty, Secession and others refers to a whole artistic movement in art, which emerged at the turn of the century before last and last century.

It is a revolutionary trend that has brought new pictorial mediums, colors, sensations, and they still amaze the imagination.

Modern, in this sense, is a beautiful style, characterized by the use of particular plasticity, volume, fluidity and luxurious floral motifs in the drawing, decor of buildings, furniture, forging, ceramics, graphics, clothing, jewelry.

These floral ornaments have flowing, intricately curved lines, lavishly decorated with fantasy leaves and flowers. These lines are reflected in all the objects that surround people, from photo frames to house fronts.

Art Nouveau is very popular even now, its motifs are actively used in the design, mainly in interiors. But the implementation of objects made by the canons of this style is always expensive, because most of the details and elements have to be made to order.

In addition, the style looks effective only in voluminous rooms and apartments or houses entirely designed in the same way.

It remains only to agree that by using the word “modern” in this article, we will appeal to the first concept, that is, the modern style.

When hackwork – does not pass

Art Nouveau is one of the brightest styles, but it can not be called democratic, it rarely survives painlessly the introduction of things from other styles, so to maintain the integrity of the composition you should not decorate your kitchen with samovar, copper tableware or Gzhel.

Modern does not tolerate poor quality of workmanship and assembly.

Although the style offers a wide range of colors, still it is necessary to give preference to one – calm, not very bright, let it be the dominant in the entire composition. And rich and eye-catching shades will be used exclusively in the decor.

If you are still attracted to brightly colored kitchens, including exotics, please note that they do not look good in small rooms – they must be admired from the outside.

Creating an interior in the modern style is not so difficult: select the appropriate kitchen, fill it with appliances, and be discreet in your choice of decor – and you’ll succeed!

Modern came to the kitchen

Kitchens are some of the most interesting elements of the house. In them we try to embody our ideas of functionality, convenience and, of course, beauty.

In this respect, modern, that is, modern style, is a great way to express all our ideas. For it manages to absorb the most practical ideas and implement them brilliantly.

Art Nouveau is quite young, but already now the rules of its embodiment have been formed to such an extent that they are already being violated in search of fresher and more non-trivial ways.

The style is characterized by very clear, sharp lines, simple proportions, large, often horizontal elements and specific decor, stripped of unnecessary tinsel.

And instead of the usual decorations in the kitchens took the place of the structural details: handles, rails, fasteners, etc.d.

The main feature of the modern style – the emphasis on functionality, Art Nouveau is designed to create practical kitchen interiors, which will be most convenient to work, keep order, store things, eat and do other things.

The three currents of Art Nouveau

Gas ovens

For all occasions

Art Nouveau, as a modern style, is amazingly diverse. It can be distinguished by several currents.

The first trend in Art Nouveau is versatility.

These are kitchens, created according to the rules of Art Nouveau, but with a strongly subdued manifestation of this style. These kitchens are not so strict, they are closer to the classics, and are not as demanding in shaping the entire interior of the house.

They often use warm, cozy shades and colors, choose surfaces finished in wood, natural stone, they do not have a lot of metal.

The universality of these kitchens is that they like different generations of customers, they are not so trendy, and therefore do not go out of style.

Strictly in luxury

Unites elegant kitchens, which fully embodies the most interesting findings of technologists and designers. It concentrates all the best and beautiful, but functionality of these kitchens is still high.

The second current in Art Nouveau – severe luxury.

Large structural elements are used in the sets: wide drawers and wall units with opening upward, columns and blocks that fill the wall from bottom to top, of course, the latest fittings and unusual layout solutions.

Designers are finding new materials, including the best polymers and a recent discovery: exotics: rare woods with gorgeous colors and textures that bring amazing linear, knotty patterns and unique colors to the kitchen.

One such exot that has become a kind of banner of this phenomenon is wenge, a dark, almost black wood with a “striped” pattern.

Up to that time exotics in furniture were rarely used, because most of them have a very hard and difficult to handle wood. Nowadays even wallpaper is covered with veneer of this type of wood.

Designers began to look for new ways to more interesting and unusual use of already familiar materials. They started to use bleached with etched natural pigment and stained with the effect of thickening of the natural pigment wood, to brushed wood.

To give the surfaces a luxurious shine, multi-layered coatings of lacquer and polymers acrylics are used. Very unusual and spectacular look facades, consisting entirely of glass coated on the inside in black, red, orange and other colors.

Kitchens of this type quite often attributed to the Hi Tech style, which is only partly true. This style tried to realize the aesthetics of industrial premises in residential interiors.

In its pure form, it is quite rare. But if we look at the meaning of the name, Hi Tech – high technology, the kitchens we’re talking about, are well deserving of such a name. After all, they embody the most advanced achievements of applied science.

Large appliances for the kitchen

A mini, but not a skirt

It is characterized by extreme parsimony of pictorial techniques, for example, according to the author’s idea, the entire set may consist of a couple of shelves and a huge table, resembling a giant bench.

The third trend in modern – strict minimalism.

The furniture is created from the most expensive and sometimes unusual materials. Minimalism admits quite a small set of colors, among which the absolute leaders are black and white.

Art Nouveau technique

Composites, glass and metal

But design is not the only determinant of style, another important element is the materials, and impeccable finish is of utmost importance…. The main materials characteristic of modernism are plastics, composites, glass and metal.

Plastics are actively used to cover countertops and fronts, they allow for any color and texture, and at the same time are fairly durable and easy to care for.

Composites are primarily created for countertops and sinks, as they have to be exposed to moisture, temperature, and various compounds every day.

Composites are particularly strong multi-component materials that can have natural or synthetic stone crumbles, clay and resins bonding this base.

Glass, both transparent and frosted, colorless or tinted, are used for stained glass facades. Glass panels can cover kitchen “aprons” or worktops.

Another popular material is metal – aluminum and stainless steel. Metal is used to make frames for fronts and countertops, spectacular aprons, handles, rails.

Sometimes metal becomes dominant in the entire composition, as it is used to make tables and fronts. Aluminium and stainless steel look best when their surfaces have a matte finish, but brushing brushing with a hard-bristle brush and embossing are not out of the question.

Doors at the pillar pull aside

Undoubtedly, one of the greatest achievements of thought in the development of style, was the use of brand new furniture fittings, which increases the level of comfort and simplifies daily chores in the kitchen.

New ways of attaching doors have made it possible to introduce an unfamiliar way of opening the hinged systems – upwards. This solution frees up space in front of the cabinet and is safer.

Drawer pull-out systems forward have made the drawers’ contents so accessible for the first time, as drawers, even the largest ones, can now be pulled out fully. The doors of the columns can pull aside and fold into a special slot along the sidewall.

Very interesting findings of engineers on the internal arrangement of cabinets, for example, for drawer sections are offered inserts with fully structured space, where there are special cells for storing all kinds of utensils, crockery and products.

When pulled out, the cells can open on their own, as is often done for receptacles in which trash is stored. The drawers not only allow for storage, but also stationary placement of appliances, with the connection being made directly into a socket installed in the cabinet.

There are many such unusual but practical solutions.

But sets are complemented by other clever finds, some of them are designed to form a new space around the table.

It can be unusual curbs or flat sections including with fronts , running along the “apron”, which serve as a small storage area bars, which hold a large panel with a system of rails and baskets mobile elements of the countertop, etc.d.

Home appliances: Classic or Hi Tech?

Complete kitchens in a modern style is not a problem, the choice of solutions is very large, it remains only to determine which way to go.

Four stylistic trends are used to create appliances: rustic or country , classic, retro 50s-60s style and Hi Tech. Of these, only two are acceptable in modern kitchens: these are classic and Hi Tech.

Appliances in classic design will soften the sharpness of the manifestation of modern style, make the interior more traditional, they are suitable for universal kitchens.

And Hi Tech, on the contrary, gives the kitchen a more dynamic and decisive look, makes it more businesslike, in addition the appliances of this type usually have more interesting functionality, which means they will add new opportunities for implementing a variety of culinary ideas.

Not least of these is the fact that the most advanced innovations currently being used in appliances find their embodiment exclusively in Hi Tech appliances.

These are induction heating, steam cooking, combined cooking with several types of action, control of the most modern automatics and sensors, dominoes with Wok, grill, fryer, etc.d. The Hi Tech appliances sometimes have a non-trivial design, such as a pattern on the hob or cooker hood, a bright color.

To incorporate Art Nouveau elements into your kitchen design, consider features like intricate floral motifs, curved lines, and natural forms. Opt for materials like stained glass, wrought iron, and decorative tiles to enhance the style. Color schemes should include soft, muted tones like pastels, earthy greens, and rich jewel tones. Key characteristics of Art Nouveau design, such as ornate details, flowing shapes, and asymmetrical patterns, can be translated into cabinetry, lighting fixtures, backsplashes, and hardware choices. Incorporating these elements will create a unique and stunning Art Nouveau-inspired kitchen that exudes elegance and charm.
