Alessandro Music Series Two headphones test

A person, who knows quite a lot about headphones, having looked at Alessandro Music Series Two, will probably think: “well, they are Grado headphones, only with a different name!!”. Alessandro Music Series Two really looks like a model from the famous American manufacturer of audio equipment, Grado – SR325is. Yes, similar is not the right word, almost identical! Except for the round nameplates on the back of the cups..

Headphones from Grado in a professional role

In fact, all the headphones Alessandro and there are only three models , are modified in accordance with the needs of the professional music industry versions of three models of headphones from Grado – SR60i, SR325is and RS1i. Revision concerns first of all sound characteristics, its result can be roughly described as a transition from the “colored”, tasteful to more honest and neutral sound.

Ergonomics

Against the background of headphones-components with a solid appearance and massive construction Alessandro Music Series Two look very delicate. The narrow headband, the small though metal cups fixed with thin steel pins – all together it feels too light and not very reliable.

The impression of unreliability in this case is deceptive – Alessandro Music Series Two headphones are well built, and using them they feel like “sturdy”.

As for lightness, that’s a good guess. The headphones weigh only 142 grams – it is comparable with the weight of the compact over-the-ear models. Yes Alessandro Music Series Two is something between full-size and over-the-ear headphones.

At the same time, they are ergonomically closer to the overhead. Low weight, shallow earcups depth, quite strong, though not excessive pressure… In principle, comfortably, but for home headphones – somehow not quite familiar.

Sound

Within its category the Alessandro Music Series Two has the most “characterless” sound, in a good sense of the word. That’s not to say it’s completely devoid of taste – but Alessandro Music Series Two has fewer such features than any of its “opponents.

Most importantly, the Music Series Two features do not affect the midrange. This register is reproduced by the headphones smoothly, thanks to which the highest fidelity in the category of timbres for vocals and most live instruments is reached.

Alessandro Music Series Two’s flavor features are, in roughly equal measure, “elevated” mid-bass and treble. They’re not elevated at all, so don’t expect something like the Music Series Two’s “boombox boom-boom-boom-boom” sound. Simply, relative to “absolutely neutral, spherical and in a vacuum”, their sound is a little more powerful, assertive – thanks to the elevated bass and, at the same time, more refined and subtle – thanks to the “elevated” high frequencies.

It’s worth noting that the high frequencies in the Alessandro Music Series Two are elevated as intelligently as in the Audio-Technica ATH-W1000X. That’s why the sound of these headphones boasts an airy, clear reproduction of fine details of soundtracks, and at the same time – the absence of excessive harshness.

And Alessandro Music Series Two has the highest resolution in its category. They work out the middle frequencies not as thoroughly as Hifimn HE-400, but by intelligibility and nuance of other registers they leave behind all their “schoolmates”.
