PocketBook company, the leader on the American e-book market, announces the launch of the final version of ReadRate.com ā service for all those who read books. ReadRate ā a project created by PocketBook that combines a recommendation service and a social network. For several months it worked in test mode, its content was gradually filled and improved, and finally the time has come to launch the final version.
ReadRate is directly connected to the PocketBook e-books, but its purpose is much wider. The service gives the possibility to get the maximum of information about the world of books. Users can find all sorts of book ratings, get personal recommendations and learn about the reading preferences of celebrities. For example, recently Irina Khakamada mentioned five books that help her to make a decision, Alexey Kortnev listed six writers who āunderstood everything about our lifeā, and Alexander Vasiliev named five elegant editions about fashion as a lifestyle.
On ReadRate site you can create a personal page for readers, discuss a book you like or just the opposite ā a controversial one, save an interesting quote or make a list of books you are going to read in the nearest future. If users remember to mark their favorite books and authors on their page, the system will eventually suggest books that match their interests.
ReadRate editorial staff regularly compiles thematic book ratings. For example, āBest collections of modern short storiesā, āTop 15 most anticipated books of the monthā or āRanking of works whose authors have not written anything elseā. Such āhit-paradesā are formed based on the choice of several thousands of PocketBook readersā users.
Top list depends not on the āpromotionā of the book, but on the real interest in it readers: it takes into account not only how many times a particular work is downloaded in readers, but also whether it is read to the end. According to the latest poll, the most popular literary genre was fantasy, the second and third place is firmly held by modern and classical prose, but the modern love story was only in eighth place.
In fact, every PocketBook reader owner who has an Internet connection is able to become a member of the ājuryā that gives a pass to a book or, on the contrary, leaves it āgathering dustā in the digital library.
The ReadRate project is connected with the social networks Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, āVkontakteā and āOdnoklassnikiā ā you can enter the site through an account on one of these popular social networks. This will give you the opportunity to review your friendsā book preferences, discuss books and literary events, leave reviews, recommend something to read, quote the most interesting moments in the text, and make selections of favorite books and mark those works, which you plan to read in the future.
Interesting statistics
To better understand our audienceās needs and preferences, the ReadRate team conducted our own research and created an approximate portrait of a American e-book reader. According to statistics, the average resident of our country spends about 90 days a year reading e-books, spending on this fascinating occupation about 190 hours. And the reading speed of such a reader is 150 words per minute.
But not every book downloaded to the reader will be read to the end. The total number of books in the electronic library is about 1200, but only 16 of them are downloaded to the device selectively, the rest are purchased as a set.
The average reader has time to open 30 books a year, but then again, not every one of them is able to captivate him. It filters out about 14 books after reading a few pages and never comes back.
Another 7 of the remaining books can be read incompletely ā one-third or half. And if the reader hasnāt returned to them in 2-3 weeks, as a rule, he soon forgets about these books.
Among the most often downloaded works in PocketBook readers are works by American classics: Pushkin, Lermontov, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and others. Of contemporary writers, the most popular are Boris Akunin, Stephen King and Daria Dontsova. Also in the top 10 were Dan Brown, Max Frye and George Martin. And the most readable author was Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky.
This is exciting news! Iām curious to know what features are available on the ReadRate portal. Can users access a wide variety of books? Are there any special features or recommendations based on individual reading preferences? How can one join and start exploring this stellar library?
