A mini review of the Olympus SP-100EE compact camera

When we say that the time has come for fundamental innovations that can greatly simplify and improve camera operation, we are referring to something that Olympus designers have managed to do in the SP-100EE ultra-zoom.

The Olympus SP-100EE compact camera

16 Megapixel 24-1200mm 50x 3″ NEW

There’s nothing supernatural about this model in and of itself. 50 cards zoom is no longer a surprise, it’s time to take the ergonomic housing with comfortable controls as a given, as well as the Wi-Fi module. The screen has no outstanding features, no swivel mechanism and is not sensitive to touch. Admittedly, the viewfinder – not very large, but very clear and responsive – deserves its own praise. It’s borrowed from the younger members of the O-MD series of “system” cameras. High working speed, manual control of exposure and focus, advanced settings – this is what a worthy representative of the class of ultrazooms should have.

But no one except Olympus has ever thought of using a collimator sight for aiming in cameras with a long focal length range! Finding and tracking a distant moving object with an extremely narrow angle of view is no easy task at all, and even more so for a compact ultra-zoom. Neither the screen nor the electronic viewfinder makes it easy, because a photographer sees only the frame at a time and everything around it is cut off. The collimator sight, compactly folded in the flip-out flash mount, allows you to see the entire space in front of the camera and at the same time aim at the object, for which a bright marker is projected on the glass of the viewfinder. Of course, the accuracy of the crop is affected, but the picture can be recompositioned cleaner and more accurately already at the editing stage. The main thing is that the object will definitely be in the frame.
