An amazing example of the fallback as the P530 line is upgraded from its predecessor. The P530 differs from its predecessor P540 in many ways, but in the direction of simplification. This can only be explained by strategic considerations: the manufacturer needed to make room for another superzoom – the Nikon Coolpix P600. In any case, enthusiasts have the opportunity to buy a camera from last year with more interesting functionality, but for less money.
Nikon Coolpix P530 compact camera
18 MP 24-1000 mm 41.7x 3.2″ $330
16MP 24-1000mm 41.7×3″ $370
The P520 offers more resolution than the newcomer. The only hope is that the P530’s 16-megapixel sensor offers better picture quality. True, the newcomer lost his GPS. Logically it should have acquired Wi-Fi, but, as before, this function is optional and can be added by connecting an external module. The screen is now reduced in size and, what’s more frustrating, built tightly into the frame. The P520 was equipped with a tilt and swivel mechanism. In addition, the P530 has learned how to shoot synthetic stereo photos. Although, due to the rather low quality and poorly predictable result of creating 3D pictures with single lens cameras, this is not worth complaining about.
I would like to know if the Nikon Coolpix P520/P530 compact cameras are worth the investment. Can any users share their experiences with the image quality, zoom capabilities, and overall performance of these cameras?
